NEIGHBORS DAY – HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Written by on March 20, 2025

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region‘s Neighbors Day is back, April 26th from 8a-3p! It has been a popular event since 1996. Last year, over 500 people volunteered at almost 200 homes, bringing much-needed help to neighbors throughout the city.

Habitat for Humanity’s Neighbors Day is a family-friendly, active, outdoor event that brings people together for the common good. It’s also a great volunteer activity for groups. Faith communities, organizations, businesses, families, and other groups can put their teams together for a fun-filled day supporting our community members.

Community Outreach Director Natalie Heneghan joined the Morning Buzz to share more about this fantastic event:

Sign up to volunteer to help HERE and if you need assistance with your home, you can find more info and apply for assistance HERE! Deadline to sign up for assistance is APRIL 17, 2025.

There’s still time to apply for homeownership through Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region! Applications for homes in La Crosse and Hillsboro, WI, are open until March 31, 2025.

Who Can Apply?
Families are selected based on three key criteria:
✔ Need for safe and affordable housing
✔ Ability to afford homeownership
✔ Willingness to partner with Habitat

Selected families work alongside Habitat staff and volunteers to build their homes, contributing at least 150 sweat equity hours. Once complete, homes are sold to the families at full appraised value with a 0% interest mortgage, making homeownership more accessible. Homeowners pay full property taxes and insurance, just like any other homeowner.

How to Apply: Interested families can download an application ONLINE or request one by emailing info@habitatlacrosse.org or calling 608-785-2373, ext. 104.
