Texas University Offering Course On Taylor Swift

When it comes to songwriting, it’s safe to say that Taylor Swift has a grasp on the subject. Being able to tell the stories she does and using the English language the way she does takes extraordinary skill. And now that’s a subject to be studied at the University of Texas-Austin.
This fall, “Literary Contests and Contexts — The Taylor Swift Songbook” will be a course offered to undergrads.
According to KXAN.com:
Part of what makes Swift’s songs a good canvas for a literature course is that Swift is an autobiographical and topical songwriter, Scala said. Students in the course will look at “literary traditions and forms through a distinctly contemporary lens,” according to course announcement. They’ll also be comparing her work to Western literature like Shakespeare, Keats and Frost.
While that’s incredibly interesting, I feel like a course looking into how she markets her content on social media would be fascinating. With cryptic clues to album releases and easter eggs in her posts, it really takes her fans on a journey.
