ONLY WORKING OUT ON WEEKENDS CAN BE AS HEALTHY AS GOING ALL WEEK?

If you’re like a lot of us, you’re hustling two jobs, probably shuffling your kids to practice and hangouts, meal prepping, and cleaning all week without the time to hit the gym.

A new study from the Journal of the American Medical Association claims that if you only have time to workout on the weekends, that may be as good as exercising all week. Experts recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of “vigorous” exercise for 18- to 64-year-olds every week. That is the benchmark to be an “active” adult.

“The findings of this large prospective cohort study suggest that individuals who engage in active patterns of physical activity, whether weekend warrior or regularly active, experience lower all-cause and cause-specific mortality rates than inactive individuals,” researchers write in JAMA Internal Medicine.

Sounds like taking a 30 minute walk 5 times a week is the same as an hour and 15 minute walk both Saturday and Sunday, or running the same amount only one of those days. That seems like a more attainable goal.

Obviously, this is just the goal to be an “active” adult, so if you’re looking to build muscle or lose weight, you might have to get moving during the week, too.
