LIZZO CHANGES LYRICS AFTER FANS CALL OUT OFFENSIVE SLUR
Written by Ballzer on June 14, 2022
Lizzo is very dedicated to her fans. She promotes body positivity, spreads love, and lifts people up. So it’s not surprising that she has put her fans first, yet again.
Lizzo is changing the lyrics to her new song “Grrrls” after criticism from fans, particularly from the disabled community. The song contains the word ‘spaz’, which is considered an “ableist slur.” The lyrics in question are: “Hold my bag/Do you see this s—? I’m a spazz.” The word spaz, or spazz, is considered a slur in the UK and Australia, though it’s generally accepted in the United States to mean “freaking out.”
Hey @lizzo my disability Cerebral Palsy is literally classified as Spastic Diplegia (where spasticity refers to unending painful tightness in my legs) your new song makes me pretty angry + sad. ‘Spaz’ doesn’t mean freaked out or crazy. It’s an ableist slur. It’s 2022. Do better.

Lizzo could have easily ignored the fans’ comments, but in true Lizzo fashion, she put her fans first and responded in the best way possible.
