DID YOU KNOW? THE ROCKEFELLER CENTER CHRISTMAS TREES ARE USED TO BUILD HABITAT HOMES

Written by on December 22, 2021

I was absolutely floored by this, and I can’t believe I didn’t know about it. It’s truly amazing, and makes me love the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree even more!

Since 2007, each year, the enormous Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center has been used to build a Habitat for Humanity Home. These Habitat homes have been built in Mississippi, Philadelphia, New York, California, New Jersey, and more!

Habitat for Humanity explains, “Each year since 2007, lumber milled from the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree has been used to help a family build their Habitat home. Tishman Speyer, the owner and operator of Rockefeller Center, generously donates that lumber to Habitat. Company staff members then build alongside a family, turning a Christmas tradition celebrated by millions into a place for smaller, but no less joyous, celebrations.” Read more about the tradition here!

How cool is that?! I love Habitat for Humanity, and reusing the trees is such a smart idea. Plus, it’s a pretty special thing knowing your home was built out of a Christmas tree! THAT is the true spirit of the holidays.
