DAYLIGHT SAVING REMINDER- CLOCKS GO BACK AN HOUR THIS WEEKEND
Written by Ballzer on November 3, 2021
It’s happening. This Sunday, November 7, at 2am, we turn our clocks back one hour. Inevitably, it starts getting dark earlier. Some of us think, “we gain an hour.” Others, mostly parents, say, “this is going to be rough”.
Here are just a few tips to help make the transition a bit easier on your kids, and on you.
The experts suggest to start moving the bed time, up this week, to prepare them for the shift this weekend. Also, start changing their eating schedule to help prepare them. These things are easier said than done, but it’s worth a shot even if it helps a little!
Who participates and why do we do it?
Every state except Hawaii and Arizona currently observes daylight saving time. Fewer than 40% of the world’s countries observe daylight saving time, according to timeanddate.com. From what I’ve read, the biggest reason for daylight saving time is to save energy. According to livescience.com, “the time change was first instituted in the U.S. during World War I, and then reinstituted again during WW II, as a part of the war effort. During the Arab oil embargo, when Arab members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) stopped selling petroleum to the United States, Congress even enacted a trial period of year-round daylight saving time in an attempt to save energy.” If you’re ever confused, try this reminder; spring ahead, fall behind. It’s always worked for me.
Reminder to set your clocks back an hour before you go to bed on Saturday night (cell phones, tablets, computers, tech gadgets and smart appliances do this automatically). You may wake up on Sunday feeling refreshed or it could have the reverse affect because it’s simply messing with your schedule, and your kiddos’ schedules. Either way, here’s what this week looks like in La Crosse.
