DUNE 2 IS OFFICIALLY HAPPENING AND WE HAVE A RELEASE DATE!!
Written by Ballzer on October 27, 2021
Less than a week after the epic release of the highly anticipated new version of Dune, the sequel has been officially given the green light. It’s no surprise since the remake is technically called “Dune Part 1,” but we were surprised to have a release date already! Almost two years to the day after the first one’s release, Part 2 is due October 20, 2023.
According to Collider, director Denis Villeneuve said, “I’m writing [Part Two] now, and I feel like I’m eight years old again. That’s very uncommon for me. It’s the first time I’ve experienced it where I’m watching one of my movies, and I have a moment of deep gratitude, of deep joy, and I say, ‘Thank you, life, for having allowed me to bring that to the screen.’ [laughs] I don’t know how other people will feel about it. But me? Denis Villeneuve when he was 14 years old? Thank you.”
Dune Part One is in theaters now, as well as on HBO Max, available for subscribers to stream for 30 days after its initial release.
We loved it at our house. A few of the really sci-fi parts, that were a bit much for me, in the David Lynch version from 1984 weren’t in Villeneuve’s new film and I was just fine with that.
The novel from Frank Herbert came out in 1965 and has 5 sequels so there’s plenty of material to turn this into an epic franchise. Assuming it continues to make lots of money, that’s most likely exactly what they plan to do.
This is only the beginning…
