Jesse’s Top 5 Z93 Songs of 2020

Written by on December 2, 2020

You may have noticed that your friends have been sharing their “most listened to” lists on social media. It’s always interesting to have a look back at the songs that shaped the soundtrack of your year (even if the year hasn’t been great)

So I’ve compiled a list of my favorite songs that we’ve played on Z93 in 2020!

Most “2020” song- Ariana Grande & Justin Bieber “Stuck With U”

Just a light-hearted song about making the best of the “stay-at-home” portion with your people. Plus, the video is pretty adorable.

Honorable Mention- Machine Gun Kelly & blackbear “My Ex’s Best Friend”

If you would have told me, “Hey Jesse, in 2020 MGK is going to come out in a pop punk album and it’s gonna slap!”, I may have not believed you. But MGK dropped “Tickets To My Downfall” and it may be my favorite album of the year.

5. Halsey- “you should be sad”

Halsey dipped slightly into a country vibe on this one. She claims that it’s not autobiographical, that it’s just a good, old fashioned break up song. Definitely deserving of a spot in the top 5.

4. Ava Max- “Kings and Queens”

This one was honestly a big surprise for me. Obviously, “Sweet but Psycho” was incredible but to come out and crush AGAIN?! You love to see it.

3. Zoe Wees- “Control”

The first time I heard this song, I was blown away and that we needed to play it immediately. Zoe’s voice is just so beautiful and powerful! I’m predicting that we’ll be hearing a lot from Zoe Wees. Awesome song.

2. Jawsh685 & Jason Derulo “Savage Love”

Easily my song of the summer. Definitely a fine example of “less is more”. The beat is just so catchy and pulls you in. Try being in a bad mood and listen to this one. It’s impossible.

  1. The Weeknd- “Blinding Lights”

Now, I’ve been a Weeknd Stan for a long time. But I wasn’t ready for this one. The first time I listened to “Blinding Lights”, my jaw dropped. It’s dark and moody. That 80’s synth sound just takes you on a ride. In fact his album, “After Hours”, is highly recommended. Give it a spin!
