MY EXCITING DAY GETTING A COVID-19 TEST
Written by Ballzer on October 5, 2020
My wife and I have been pretty careful during the pandemic. We wear our masks everywhere and have very limited contact with others. But, it happened, like we had a feeling it would. We were exposed to someone that tested positive for COVID-19. We immediately went into a 14 day quarantine. That day was the day I planned to go on my weekly trip to the grocery, but thankfully we have a freezer 😉
My health care provider informed me that we’d get a more accurate result if I waited a few days after exposure so we decided to go to the La Crosse County Health Department’s free drive-through testing today. It was… well, exactly what I expected. We got there 30 minutes before it started and were probably the 10th car in line. By the time 10a rolled around, there was close to 50 people waiting in the parking lot of the Health and Human Services lot in downtown La Crosse. We registered online ahead of time so we had a QR code emailed to us that was scanned before the test. Once we got moving, it was less than 15 minutes. It was a nasal swab test and while it didn’t hurt, saying it was uncomfortable wouldn’t be explaining it properly. It was invasive and awkward and created a postnasal drip type awfulness that lasted for hours.
Everyone working the event was really nice and it seemed to be run very efficiently! Plus, we got to check out sculptures while in line! Thanks for your hard work, La Crosse County and Wisconsin National Guard. Now we await the results.
