HAPPY NATIONAL RADIO DAY!
Written by Jesse on August 20, 2020
So, I’ve been in radio for just over 13 years now (just over 7 with Z93) and I gotta tell ya, I’m still blown away that this is what I get to do as a job. For real. Who did I fool for the chance to speak to thous….doz…you every afternoon?
On National Radio Day, I’m reminded of a situation that happened to me early in my career. I worked on Sunday mornings at a station and primarily “ran the board” for various programming. Like church services, etc. One of my responsibilities was to record a 3 minute news broadcast that aired during an overnight talk show we carried.
One Sunday morning, an avid listener of this talk show called up and went into a rant about how terrible the person who read the news was, how they shouldn’t be in broadcasting, fully not knowing that they were, in fact, speaking to the person who read the news.
My little baby DJ heart was crushed. I’d been at this station for just a few months and to this person’s credit, I WAS terrible.
But I used that as motivation to get better.
So, “mystery person who told me I was terrible at radio”, I guess the joke’s on you. I’m still terrible just on a much grander scale.
Boom. Roasted.
