BACK 2 SCHOOL
Written by Brian Jackson on July 17, 2020
Last year over 1,000 students needed our help to get ready to go back to school. Members of this community responded with notebooks, pencils, glue, scissors, and other necessities to give every student a great start to a new school year. Your gifts also showed that our students and their education are essential to this community's very future!
This year, our students and their families are facing even bigger challenges. In March 2020, the La Crosse area unemployment rates were listed at an all-time low of 2.4%. When COVID-19 and the Safer at Home order came to Wisconsin, our local unemployment rate jumped to 12.5% in April. This increase does not include the many who are still working but whose hours were decreased so businesses could stay open.
While we cannot tell if this increase will affect the number who need assistance with school supplies, we are still anticipating an increase! We are not sure how or when students will be allowed back in the classroom, but the day will come when the doors open, and we need to have our students ready. Currently, the La Crosse School District is planning for all schools to start virtually for the first month on September 1, 2020.
If you are able, you can make a monetary donation to help us purchase supplies for our students! Click here to donate, or click the button below! If you prefer to donate school supplies, donation drop offs can be made at Catholic Charities 413 3rd St. S, Monday through Thursday from 9AM-4PM.
Thanks to our sponsors, Jolivette Family Farms and Builders Flooring, Zcare was able to donate $500 to Back2School!
