OTHER WAYS TO COPE DURING QUARANTINE
- Being lazy is ok sometimes! Being productive is not always a must. If you’re feeling stressed or worried about the current situation, don’t feel pressured to fill up your time with “useful” activities. Sometimes, you just need to sit back and relax. Take a nap, lay down to watch a TV show, try and silence your mind to calm your worries and lower your blood pressure in the process.
- Bake or cook! Get the kids involved, or simply try it on your own! Bake or cook something new. It might be tough to find some ingredients, so challenge yourself to cook something that relies on pantry items you currently have. Or try to create a dish with what you have on hand, and try a new technique instead of a recipe.
- Call or video chat with a friend! We have been forced apart from friends and family, but thankfully, most of us have plenty of opportunities to connect virtually. Connect with your loved ones to check in! Maybe it’s a quick text to say good morning, or a video chat to share a laugh, but staying in touch with the people you love will help boost your mood. You can even play games with friends online!
- Get plenty of sunlight! Exposure to natural sunlight increases serotonin and helps with depression. Open up the curtains when you’re inside and, when you can, go for a walk around the neighborhood while (of course) maintaining social distancing protocols.
