Kathy Lucey and Donna Finn are heading up a Shamrock Club and Irishfest sponsored fundraiser for the St. Clare Health Mission entitled “Shearing for Sharing”. Jim Kroner, Rick Pervisky, Dick Record and Jim Tracy have agreed to run for the honor of shearing a sheep “Paddy” at Irishfest on Saturday, August 9 at 3:30 p.m. in the Cultural Tent.

These men will be distributing ballots and asking for donations throughout the community to secure votes. Votes are $1 each or 6 for $5. You may vote for more than one person and vote as many times as you wish on one ballot. We also hope that you will be able to gather votes from people you know. Donations and ballots may be turned in to any of the four contestants or Kathy or Donna. Ballots can also be obtained here.

Bring your kids to Catfish Days and join the Friends of Trempealeau Public Library in the Kids tent. Enjoy on-going games enhanced by music, face painting, stone skipping, clogging, juggling, and clowns. The Kids tent is open from 2-5 on Saturday July 12 and 4-6:30 on Sunday July 13th, near the river in Trempealeau.

 A cancer benefit for Angi Hutchcroft-Arttus will be held Saturday, May 17 at Yoder’s in Rockville, WI. There will be a silent auction from 6-8, food served from 5-8 and live music from Mr. Obvious starting at 8pm. A cover charge of $5 will be collected at the door.

Jim has been out of work for at least a year now and his wife Bonnie recently had a minor stroke and was out of work herself.

The benefit will be held at the Lions Club in Mindoro on June 7th starting at 2pm ending at 7pm.  The 1st place prize that will be raffled off is a handmade Harley Davidson quilt (Q/K sized) valued at 700.00. The 2nd place prize is a 22 long rifle auto (model 20p).  3rd and 4th prizes are 100.00 cash with 5th place being 50.00 cash.  Also available will be various gifts and gift cards from local businesses for silent auctions. Also, there will be a bake sale where various cheesecakes,cakes cookies and other goodies will be available for sale.

A benefit is being held for Jason and Leanne (Miske) Hugdahl and their three girls who lost their home and belongings in a fire. It will be held at the Eleva Legion on Saturday May 10 starting at 4pm. There will be charcoaled chicken dinner, raffles, bake sale, and a live auction with Greg Fjelstad as auctioneer. The meal will last through 7pm when the auction starts. There will be a dance following the auction. Monetary donations can be sent to United Bank, PO Box 37, Eleva, WI 54738. The event is co-sponsored by Eleva Legion Post 459 and the Eleva-Strum Lions Club and donations will be matched by Thrivet for Lutherans.

The Coulee Council on Addictions will be hosting a Pogy’s catered Chicken-Q in their parking lot (in the alley behind 921 West Ave South) on Friday April 11 from 11am-5pm.  Dine-in and carryout are available for $7 and include a 1/2 chicken, beans, potato salad, roll and butter. On April 18 and 19, two UW-L residence halls, Hutchinson and Laux, are putting on a fundraiser called MAD Dash to LAX. Both residence halls are putting on this program by themselves since it is not a University program or event. They will be taking a coach bus and a few 15-passenger vans filled with close to 100 UW-L students down to Madison. From Madison, pairs of students will run in two-mile increments and relay their way back to the La Crosse campus. All of the money raised by this program will be donated to Shriners Hospital for Children, which provides free specialized orthopedic, burn, and spinal cord injury care to children, all funded through private donations.
