Jerry and Kathy Riley Cancer Benefit

West Salem residents Jerry and Kathy Riley need your help. Jerry was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004 and went into remission after extensive treatment. His wife, Kathy, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2006 and also wento into remission after treatment. Unfortunately, it was recently discovered that Jerry’s cancer is back, in an advanced stage, and only has a few months left to live. Their family and friends are organizing a benefit on March 16, 2008 at the Log Cabin banquet hall in Bangor, WI from 2-6. There will be live music, raffle and stick drawings for door prizes.

Scott “Moldy” Moldenhauer Benefit

Scott “Moldy” Moldenhauer was injured in a head on car accident on December 5th, 2007. Unfortunately the other motorist was uninsured driver who was attempting to pass a semi and plow truck. Since the accident Scott has been unable to return to his job as a self employed carpentry business, known as Moldy’s Carpentry.

On Saturday, March 15 at the American Legion Hall in Black River Falls there will a benefit to help with Scotts rising medical costs. There will be a live DJ, Silent Auction, 50/50 Cash Raffles, other various raffles. There will be brats, potato salad, baked beans and soda and an open bar for a free will donation.

All funds supplemented by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.  Donations can be made to the Scott Moldenhauer Benefit at the Co-op Credit Union in BRF.  Anyone interested in helping or if you have any questions please contact Kathy Roskos (715)963-2903.

Winter Carnival

The Parents for Lewiston-Altura Youth (P.L.A.Y) Group is having its Annual Winter Carnival on Saturday February 16th from 11 am to 2 pm at the Lewiston Elementary School. There will be fun for the whole family with games, Bingo, prizes and food. Come and Enjoy!!! The public is invited.

Gymnastics for Breast Cancer

Four gymnastics teams will be competing in a Valentine’s Day meet at Onalaska High School.

 Go to support your school and a great cause. Various autographs from gymnastic olympians will be auctioned off to help raise money for breast cancer.  There will also be a specialty designed t-shirt available at the meet.

There are women and children in Western Sudan, Africa that need our help. Their human rights have been taken away leaving them to flee their homes due to acts of violence, rape, famine, and homelessness. There are over 2 million women and children displaced from their homes in Darfur, and we can help them. Over 1.2 million homeless people are at an increased risk of disease and malnutrition with the onset of the heavy rains.

Hixon Forest Nature Center Stellar Snowflakes

Saturday Feb. 16 10-noon

Graupel and stellars and columns, oh my! Join us as we investigate the wonderful world of snow! We’ll learn the different names of snowflakes and how snowflakes form. We’ll also talk about Native American names for snow, do some painting in the snow and create snowflakes of our own! Dress for going outside and exploring! If there is no snow, we will still hike and have fun. This program is appropriate for children ages 5-10 and is limited to 12 children. Parents are welcome to attend but not required to.
