OktoberBreast Check Presentations

Monday, October 15th, 2007

In the last few weeks we’ve had the opportunity to visit both the Norma J Vinger Center for Breast Care at Gundersen Lutheran and the Fransiscan Skemp Healthcare Center for Breast Care. We are truly fortunate to have such amazing facilities in our area. On your behalf we donated $4,500 to each of the centers as part of our OktoberBreast Campaign.

On August 7th, 2007, Melanie Gilkes, 23 and her 13-month old son, Logan were in a terrible car accident just outside Sparta.  Rick Otto was one of the first on the scene that morning. He assisted with Melanie by talking with her and placing a neck brace on her. Then discovered Logan unresponsive and helped remove him from the vehicle. Melanie tragically passed away in route to the hospital. Logan was med flighted to La Crosse and underwent a very extensive surgery.

Despite all efforts Logan is a quadriplegic and will be unable to return home to his father, Andy, and 6 year old brother, Jacob.

A benefit will be held to help pay for Melanie’s end of life expenses and necesities for Logan.

Some of the events at the benefit include a silent auction, raffle and a wingspan drawing. A home cooked lunch will be available and music will be provided by Robert Dockerty. A booth will be set up by Home & Garden with part of the proceeds going to the benefit. A few items available in the auction are a Green Bay Packers football, two pictures, a porcelain doll and party package.

Our Deepest Sympathy

It is with great sadness that I report Greg Soller lost his battle with cancer. His friends and family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

“We would like to say thank you for helping us get the word out for Greg’s benefit. It was a bitter sweet day, as Greg Passed away @ 10:00 that morning from bacteria infection in his pick line and pneumonia. It was a very sad day, but all of Greg’s friends and family were there to support each other and comfort one another. We raised a good amount to help Greg’s wife pay the mountain of bills from his year long fight with cancer. We greatly appreciate Z-Care and Majestic Pines support through your web site to help us with our fun raising – Thank You so much – ” Mark Smaby and our benefit team
