ZCARE DONATES $5,000 TO FLOOD RELIEF

Thanks to our partners Majestic Pines Casino Bingo and Hotel, ZCare was able to donate $5,000 to the Flood Relief Drive. An amazing $395,255.77 was raised in the one day drive. All donations will be used to help the many individuals and families in Southeastern Minnesota and Western Wisconsin impacted by the flooding. Those seeking assistance should visit one of the Red Cross Reception Centers throughout the area including:

  • The Learning Center, Hokah
  • Southern Bluffs Elementary, La Crosse
  • Shepard Lutheran Church, Viroqua

Chicken Q for The Hunger Task Force and WAFER

The Wharf, at 10th and Main in Onalaska, will hold a Chicken Q/Silent Auction, Sunday September 16th, 11:00 am-5:00 pm, with proceeds going to The Hunger Task Force and WAFER Food Pantry. Both on-site dining and carry-outs will be available. $7 or 2 for $10 presale tickets can be purchased in advance at The Wharf or by calling WAFER at 782-6003 or emailing waferheidi@centurytel.net.

Walter Godlewski Cancer Benefit

ZCare is sad to announce the passing of Walter Godlewski. This is a very difficult time for Walter’s family and friends, but they would like to share that the benefit will continue on Sept. 15th. You are welcome to come and show your support for Walter’s family and friends in raising money to cover the costs of his overwhelming medical costs.

Walter was diagnosed with Lymphoma and was undergoing chemotherapy to help prolong his life.

Walter and his girlfriend, Patty Pederson, are hoping you will come out to support Walter on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Melvina Ball Park. There will be a Poker Run, starting at 11. There will also be a Chicken Q, Pig Roast, bake sale, raffle and a live auction. Live music will be provided by Button & Bows, Back In Time, and DJ Jeff Ferris.

Jenel Berkowitch Benefit

May 8th, 2007, 26 year old, Jenel Berkowitch was diagnosed with an aggressive, grade three breast cancer.

Currently Jenel is under going 16 weeks of chemotherapy before she will be able to have surgery to remove the cancerous mass. Following the surgery six weeks of daily radiation therapy will be required.

Jenel was married to Sean Berkowitch on August 27, 2005. Sean is a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper. Being a newly married couple the last few months have been rough and the next few months will not be any easier.  Since Jenel’s diagnosis, Sean has needed many days off work to help Jenel with doctor appointments and daily activities.

Jenel’s family is holding a benefit on Sunday, September 16th. 

There will be a 2-mile walk/5k run (awarded a new name brand pair of shoes to the winner of the race), contact Carmen Sibley at 608-790-7399.

Lunch buffet at 2:30pm. Live auction at 4pm, bake sale, DJ, silent auction and Chinese raffle. Some items for the auction include guns, five motel packages, signed Wisconsin Badger football, Packer football with all the players autographs, Bret Farve and Driver autographed framed picture. Many other sports memorabilia, Amish made child rocking chair and homemade quilts.

Helping Flood Victims in the La Crosse Area

We hope you’ll join us in helping our neighbors devastated by the recent flooding. We’ve teamed up with the American Red Cross to provide immediate assistance to those in dire need. Together we can get them back on their feet. Please drop off your monetary donation on Friday between 6:00AM - 6:00PM at one of three drop off locations:

The La Crosse Center

Nelson Agri-Center in Viroqua

The City Auditorium in Caledonia

Checks should be made out the American Red Cross. All donations collected will go directly to our local Red Cross to help victims in our area. Z-care will be doing our part thanks to the generous support of Majestic Pines in Black River Falls and we hope you join us in helping those in need.

A Celebration of Jacob’s Life

Jacob’s 5th birthday was a heartwarming celebration of his life. What a wonderfully special and inspiring young man. Thanks for dropping by the Holmen American Legion for a terrific day of fun. The funds raised at Jacob’s party will be used to outfit the family with a special bathroom for Jacob.

It was an emotional day and we were honored to present Tammy Long and her family a check for $1,000 on behalf of ZCare with Majestic Pines. The money will be used to offset the piling medical bills from her lung transplant and battle with lung cancer. Thanks for showing your support at Tammy’s benefit at the Onalaska American Legion on Saturday, July 28th. Tammy is an inspiration to all of us and will remain in our thoughts and prayers as she continues to battle lung cancer.

American Legion Holmen

Jacob Schroeder was born on August 8th, 2002 to Dave and Karla Schroeder. He was diagnosed with spina bifida and hydrocephalus at 22 weeks gestation. After birth he was also diagnosed with multi-cystic encephalomalacia, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, cortical visual impairment and extreme cognitive and physical delays.

Despite all these set backs Jacob is thriving! He has far surpassed any expectations set by the doctors.

Please join the Schroeder family to celebrate Jacob’s 5th birthday August 5th, from Noon-6pm at the American Legion in Holmen. Inflatables, games, prizes and music provided by Ken Lonnquist. There will be a silent auction and meal by T-Bone’s Pork and Bean. $7.50 per meal or $5.00 sandwhich only.
