CASA for Kids Superhero Breakfast to Highlight Program, Volunteer Impact
La Crosse, Wisc. – YWCA La Crosse will host the third annual CASA for Kids Superhero Breakfast to honor the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers in its program and to highlight one outstanding individual that has contributed to CASA’s life-changing impact in the Coulee Region. The CASA for Kids Superhero Breakfast will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 7:30-9 a.m. at the South Side Neighborhood Center, 1300 6th Street S., La Crosse.
This year’s featured honoree is Kenzie Fox, who will share her experience as a volunteer advocate in the program. Gundersen Health System returns as this year’s event sponsor.
In 1999, YWCA La Crosse established CASA for Kids after several community members expressed concern that children involved in abuse and neglect cases did not have a reliable voice in court. CASA is a network of 951 community-based programs across the nation that recruit, train and support volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in courtrooms and communities. Volunteer advocates—empowered directly by the courts—offer judges critical information they need to ensure that each child’s rights and needs are being attended to while under the court’s protection. After screening and 30 hours of training, selected volunteers are sworn in as officers of the courts. Volunteers partner with children until they are placed in permanent homes. The CASA for Kids program has three primary goals: safety, permanence and the well-being of the child.
Those interested in attending to learn more about volunteering or about the program in general are invited to attend the breakfast.
