Dean Johnson Cancer Benefit

Dean Johnson was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer in May.  He is the process of undergoing 9 weeks of Radiation treatments, which should get rid of the cancer.  Dean's family is hosting a benefit for him.  All proceeds raised from the benefit will go to help with his medical bills.

Saturday September 19th, 2015 at the Colonial Bowling and Banquet Center in Sparta at 1415 W. Wisconsin St.

ELCA "Gods Work. Our Hands" Sunday

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church  is taking action in our community to make a dynamic difference on September 20th with its 3rd Annual ELCA “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday. This year Good Shepherd selected Bethany Lutheran Homes, Bethany Riverside campus on south 7th Street to make a difference by raking, sweeping, power washing and painting.
The ELCA “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday is a yearly event throughout the U.S. for 10,000+ congregations to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors and the community in which they live. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is an ELCA church and is determined to make a positive impact locally through generous mission participation. David Oly Olson Cancer Benefit

David Olson was recently diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. David has been doing treatments and taking medication daily. Though the medication had helped in some areas it has continued to spread on his spine in a few spots. With a new treatment plan they hope to stop the growth of this aggressive cancer. We would like to help David and his family pay for some of these medical bills and medication costs. A bank account has been set up at Waukon State Bank as the David Oly Olson Cancer Benefit.

A Benefit has also been planned at The Waukon Banquet Center 612 Rossville Rd. Waukon IA on Nov. 14th

Mini Donut Half Marathon

Remembering Mike "Oly" Olson

What do mini donuts have to do with running half marathons... besides the obvious fact that you are well deserving of several handfuls of donuts after running more than 13 miles?

The Mini Donut Half Marathon and Mini Mile Honor Walk events were created and organized by the family of Mike "Oly" Olson who lost his life to suicide at the age of 59 on May 14, 2013. For years, Oly owned and operated Oly's Mini Donut Express, a mini donut trailer you could find at local fairs and festivals. Oly was seen most happy while running the Mini Donut Express and he loved to make people laugh.

We will remember Mike Olson and also raise money for the Joe Was Just Joe Foundation, a local non-profit organization founded to develop and fund programs and educational resources to address issues related to suicide. We will also use the opportunity to raise awareness for suicide and mental health issues and honor all of our loved ones, both living and passed, who have suffered from depression and thoughts of suicide.

We have a serious purpose, but we will also have fun, get in a great workout, and thanks to Oly's inspiration, eat some donuts at the finish line.

Dance for Samaritans Purse Organization

Shelby Massoth, a West Salem High School Senior is hosting a Country Dance on Saturday September 12th from 6pm to 10pm at the West Salem Lion's Shelter

This is for anyone who would like to learn country dances, line dances or just come out and dance!  There is no admission charge but any Freewill Donations will go to Samaritans Purse Organization, Operations Christmas Child.

There will be raffles for a Signed Jonathon Lucroy baseball, Jordy Nelson Softball and a $25 Kwik Trip Gift Card

Door of Hope's 23rd Annual Corn Boil

Cannon O'Heron Benefit

Cannon O'Heron, an active member of the Bangor community was T-Boned and seriously injured with a broken collar bone, broken ribs, a cracked liver and collapsed lung.  Cannon's family and friends will hold a benefit to help cover medical costs from the accident.

  • Meal tickets are $15 dollars and are available at Features or from any Feature's employee

The 3rd Annual Jonathan Hoff Memorial Shoot, Shootin' For a Cure will take place Saturday, September 12th at the Coon Valley Conservation Club.  Shootin' For a Cure honors the memory of Jonathan Hoff, a 14 year old boy from Chaseburg, wholost his battle with leukemia in 2013.  Money raised from this event will go to yearly scholarships for graduates of Westby High School and to The American Cancer Society Run/Walk of Chaseburg to help in finding a cure for cancer.
