1950S CHRISTMAS DISPLAY AT HISTORY ROOM IN SPARTA

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – of the 1950s – at the Monroe County Local History Room in Sparta.  Starting Monday, November 13th, visitors can time travel to the not-so-distant past by viewing the History Room’s special Christmas display, “A 1950s Christmas.”  This retro holiday display recreates what Christmas morning might have looked like sixty years ago, from the classic toys under the tree to the linoleum flooring under the toys.  Bask in the nostalgia as you view dozens of the most popular playthings of the 1950s on display right in front of your eyes.  Time travel through television as you watch 60-year-old commercials on a 1953 TV.  Get goosepimply as you page through Christmas catalogs from six decades ago.  Bring the whole family and see what Christmas morning was like in the 1950s.

The museum display, “A 1950s Christmas,” runs from November 13th through January 13th.  The public is invited to a special open house on Monday, November 13th from 6:30-8pm.  Enjoy a sneak preview of the display as well as sweet holiday treats.  The Monroe County Local History Room is located at 200 West Main Street, Sparta.  Regular museum hours are Monday-Saturday, 9-4:30.  The History Room will also be open until 8pm on November 24-25, December 1-2, and December 8-9.  For more information call 608-269-8680 or visit Facebook.com/MCLHR.  Admission is free.

iFEED DONATION!

We're so proud to help feed people in our community and across the globe! With our partners at G.E.C.U. and Mattress Outlet La Crosse, Zcare was able to donate to the 3rd Annual iFeed.

Here's a note from Rotary iFeed:

"We had awesome numbers for out dried packed meals: we exceeded out 75,000 goal and packed 78,102 meals - 21,000 of those that are now on their way to Puerto Rico and the rest that will be heading to Nicaragua! Many thanks to Delta Airlines for all the help with the meals for Hurricane relief and to the Law Office of Gary Van Domelen for funding the cargo fees.

We gathered almost 27,000 non-perishable food items… short of our goal, but still - A LOT OF FOOD! There are a few food drive that were taking place yesterday that will get their food to Hunger Task Force - so items are still coming in!

We would like to thank all our sponsors and all our volunteers for making this year’s iFeed a huge success! Thank you so much to ZCare as well for the terrific support and for the SURPRISE check for $200! We were so happy - and every dollar will go to help the hungry!"

Dahl Automotive, in both La Crosse and Onalaska, is promoting a “Fill the Truck” food drive during their “SAVE BIG BUCKS SALES EVENT”. From November 1-November 18, both locations will accept non-perishable food items and cash donations to help feed their neighbors in need.

Five generations of the Dahl family have influenced the automobile industry for over 100 years. Dahl Automotive is the eighth oldest Ford dealer in the nation under continuous family ownership. This has been made possible through years of guest loyalty, which stems from a constant focus on the guest's complete satisfaction with our products and services.

“Dahl has been part of this community for five generations and we’re proud to be able to help an organization that is so instrumental in serving our community,” said Tyler Dahl, VP Strategic Initiatives, Dahl Automotive La Crosse, WI.

The Hunger Task Force, La Crosse’s only FREE and LOCAL Food Bank collects food throughout the region and distributes to local food programs. It currently serves over 95 meal sites and food pantries in La Crosse, Vernon, Trempealeau, Monroe, and Houston Counties. In 2016, 1.4 million pounds of food were recovered through donations and food drives for free distribution to its network of partner food pantries and community meal sites in our area.

iFeed Donation Drive this Wednesday

Z93 and Zcare to help support the Coulee Region’s iFeed Drive

La Crosse, WI: Z93 is holding a food drive to support iFeed this Wednesday morning, November 1! We will be collecting non-perishable food items with the Hunger Task Force from 6:30-9am at the Sunfish on Hwy 35 in Onalaska. Mid-West Family Broadcasting is encouraging the community to drop off goods that morning to help iFeed feed those in need.

More information on iFeed:

The 3rd Annual iFeed will be held on Saturday, November 4, from 8am to Noon at Logan High School, in La Crosse, Wis.

iFeed is a one-day event that works to alleviate hunger in the world and in our own communities. It is organized by seven area high school Interact Clubs and their Rotarian advisers. Interact is the high school equivalent of Rotary that focuses on teaching servant leadership.

iFeed has two parts: Part 1 involves packing 75,000+ dried meals in assembly line-fashion. These meals have been shipped to communities in Nicaragua for the past two years. Part 2 involves collecting non-perishable food items in the weeks leading up to iFeed and then bringing the collections to Logan High on the day of the event. The food items will then be counted, sorted and trucked to the Hunger Task Force where the food will be distributed to area food banks. The Interact students are asking the local communities to support them by bringing non-perishable food items to iFeed on November 4.

Also, iFeed has found a way to get 21,000 dried meals to hurricane victims in Puerto Rico! So those meals will be shipped to San Juan where they are still dealing with the terrible effects of Hurricane Maria! The remaining meals will be sent to Nicaragua.

BENEFIT FOR BRUCIE BUMCHUCKLES AND FAMILY

From the family's GoFundMe Page:

On the morning on July 20, our lives changed in a way we could have never predected. What started as 6 inches, quickly grew to 6 feet of water, overtaking our entire home.

Our dad (most of you know him as Brucie Bumchuckles) tried to save what he could, but the water rose so fast, and became so unexpectedly high, that almost everything was lost. The furniture, appliances, electronics are the most apparent, but the ones that matter are the family heirlooms, all family pictures, the things we had tucked away for future "Bumchuckles" generations.  6 feet of water is something that you think only happens on the news, not to your home.

While we can't replace the heirlooms or the pictures, Brucie still needs a place to sit, and dishes to eat off of.  The insurance will cover some, but there is a significant gap.

Please join us for a benefit on August 25 at Dock 7, filled with bands, a silent auction, terrible jokes, and lots o' beers. Event details can be found on the Facebook page: When it Rains, it Pours: A Bumchuckles Benefit

If you are not able to make to to the benefit, we've set up this GoFundMe for those who would still like to contribute. Any proceeds not used to refurbish or re-furnish the house will be donated to other flood victims in the La Crosse area.

We love you all.
