#TrendyTuesday #RealHero

Chadwick Boseman won Best Hero for Black Panther at the MTV Movie and TV Awards and he took the moment to highlight “a real-life hero,” James Shaw Jr., dedicating the award to him before handing it to him to keep. “it’s greater to acknowledge the heroes we have in real life … He fought off a gunman in Antioch, Tennessee at a Waffle House. He saved lives,” Boseman said of Shaw Jr. The actor also won the award for best performance in a movie later that night.

School is out for the summer, and you're going to hear the famous words from your children about a million times, "I'm bored!"  9 times out of 10, they'll reach for their iPad, video games, phones...anything technology related!  So, this is a great way to limit their screen time this summer.  It's worth a shot, right?

ariana grande pete davidson engaged

SNL's Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande announced their engagement this weekend after only a few weeks of dating. They were at Robert Pattinson's birthday party and were apparently telling everyone. “It’s a recent engagement. They’re just two people who found love quickly and make each other happy all the time. They both started talking about it this past weekend. It’s nothing they’ve been hiding,” says a source close to the couple. Pete just announced his split with his girlfriend Cazzie David a few weeks ago and that was a week after Ariana announced her split from Mac Miller.

I went to my very first Dairy Breakfast this weekend!  It was the Vernon County Dairy Breakfast at the Wall-Stone Holsteins of rural De Soto.  They hosted the 38th annual Vernon County Dairy Breakfast, and I had the honor of singing the National Anthem and judging the Grilled Cheese contest!  Wisconsin State Senator, Jennifer Schilling was another judge and co-owner of Driftless Cafe in Viroqua, Ruthie Zahm was the third judge!  The 4-H Clubs had to use all different ingredients and non-cheddar cheese to come up with a delicious and unique spin on a grilled cheese sandwich!  It was amazing!

Dairy Breakfast 2018

It was so cool watching the cows get milked by these machines!  Amazing how they just know to go in, get in their stalls, get milked, the gates come up, and they leave.  Wow!  Just really neat to watch.  I guess they can train them to do this in just a couple of days.

On the heels of two celebrity suicides this week, we felt it was an opportunity for us to acknowledge the fact that suicide does not discriminate.  Fame, fortunate, age, gender, race...none of these things matter when it comes to mental health and the risk of suicide creeping in to take over one's thoughts.  The tough conversations need to be had, and we need to start getting more comfortable having them with our friends, family members, co-workers, anyone you notice that's struggling around you.  Sure, it's tough...but losing people to suicide is much more difficult.

We spoke with Licensed Counseling Phychologist, Jennifer L. Mueller, Ph.D. from Gundersen Health System's Behavioral Health Department.  Check out our interview:

The Miss America organization has eliminated the swimsuit portion of its competition for the first time in its 96-year history. “We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance,” said Miss America chairwoman Gretchen Carlson. “It’s going to be what comes out of their mouth that we’re interested in, when they talk about their social impact initiatives.” Carlson said the competition would focus on the talent and interview phases to determine scholarship awards, rather than operate as a beauty pageant. “We’re moving forward,” she said, “and evolving in this cultural revolution.” The changes will start with this year’s broadcast September 9th.

Brittany and Ballzer checked in with Raeanna Johnson, former Miss Wisconsin and local and regional title holder, about her thoughts on the changes:
